Job Description

The Designer – Men’s Apparel will play a pivotal role in launching and establishing Oroton’s Men’s Apparel category for the first time. Working closely with the Creative Director and Design Consultant, this role is responsible for translating creative vision into a refined, commercially viable luxury menswear collection that reflects brand DNA, craftsmanship, and elevated quality standards. As a new category, the Designer will help define foundational design principles, fit standards, and product benchmarks that will shape the future of the men’s business.

 

The Designer will contribute to the development and execution of seasonal menswear collections, including concept creation, sketching, range analysis, and supporting delivery against the critical path. Working closely with the Creative Director and Design Consultant, the Designer helps translate creative direction into well- resolved, production-ready product that aligns with Brand DNA

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Trend Analysis & Creative Direction

•       Conduct in-depth research into global luxury and premium menswear trends, including tailoring, casual luxury, knitwear, and outerwear

•       Present seasonal concepts, mood boards, colour palettes, and silhouette direction to the Creative Director and Design Consultant

•       Support the establishment of the men’s design language, product pillars, and seasonal narratives for

a new category

•       Ensure all design decisions align with brand DNA, craftsmanship, and long-term category vision

 

Design & Functional Expertise

•       Collaborate closely with the Creative Director and Design Consultant to design and build the men’s

apparel collection from the ground up

•       Translate creative vision into refined, production-ready menswear that balances aesthetic, fit, and commercial viability

•       Create detailed luxury-standard technical sketches in Adobe Illustrator and maintain accurate design documentation

•       Develop toiles, mock-ups, and fit samples to establish foundational men’s blocks and silhouettes

•       Source premium fabrics, trims, and components, with a strong focus on quality, hand-feel, durability, and provenance

•       Initiate fabric developments, lab dips, and colour standards, managing communication with mills and agents

 

•       Review and approve lab dips and fabric qualities in collaboration with the Design Consultant and Creative Director

•       Build and maintain foundational design records, cross-referencing Merchandise Plans (RRP, margin, FOB, colourways, descriptions)

 

Product Development & Sample Management

•       Own the initial product development process for men’s apparel, establishing workflows, standards,

and expectations

•       Manage sample development from first prototype through to PP, ensuring luxury fit, construction, and finish

•       Review P1, P2, and PP samples with the Creative Director and Design Consultant providing clear, considered feedback

•       Document prototype reviews and communicate detailed, structured feedback to overseas manufacturers

•       Work closely with pattern makers and factories to establish and refine men’s fit blocks and garment

engineering

•       Proactively problem-solve construction, fit, and quality challenges, escalating where required

 

Planning, Production & Category Build

•       Partner with Production to establish time/action calendars and sample approval processes for a new category

•       Work cross-functionally with Merchandise, Production, and Retail to cost the men’s collection and

support range sign-off

 

•       Provide detailed product knowledge support as the men’s category is introduced to market

•       Build strong, long-term relationships with premium suppliers and manufacturers aligned to luxury standards

•       Support overseas factory visits where required to establish fit, quality, and production capabilities

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
•       Tertiary qualification in Fashion Design; Menswear specialisation preferred

•       5+ years’ experience in premium or luxury menswear design, technical design, or pattern making

•       Strong understanding of men’s tailoring, fit blocks, grading, and garment construction

 

•       Experience working with live fit models and pattern makers

 

•       Highly proficient in Adobe Illustrator; experienced across Adobe Creative Suite

 

•       Competent user of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)

 

•       Demonstrated ability to research and interpret luxury menswear trends into brand-appropriate product

 

•       Comfortable working in ambiguity and building processes for a new category from inception

 

•       Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with senior creative stakeholders and external partners

 

•       Highly organised, proactive, and detail-driven

 

•       Excellent time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities

 

•       Willingness to travel internationally to support factory setup and production if required

PERFORMANCE MEASURES

 

The performance measures for this role will be developed in collaboration with your manager, and will include:

•       Adherence to critical path timelines as defined by the business.

•       Achievement of margin targets and sell through rates for apparel.

•       Delivery of concept sketches that move through to production and meet sales expectations.

•       Positive relationships with suppliers and manufacturers to deliver on shared goals.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Standard corporate hours with an average of 40 hours per week, generally 8:30am – 5pm, Monday to Friday although additional hours may be required to deliver on role expectations. Requirement to attend after work events and training sessions as required.

 

The majority of time will be spent in an office environment.
