Job Description

PreferreTHE OBJECTIVEThe Pattern Room Manager’s objective is to manage SMS (sales man samples) to production workflow taking over from Range Reviews for all samples for all labels clothing in line with the seasonal critical path.

Processing SMS sample to PPS (production planning system) Designers’and PPS to bulk approval in line with seasonal production schedules with guidance from Design Studio Director and Production Coordinators. Pattern Room Manager

Pattern Room Manager:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pattern Making

Working on schedules from final SMS

Provide technical advice on construction and finishing techniques as and when required, in line with the Senior Designers’ expectations.

Work closely with patternmakers to achieve the best fit in line with the Senior Design Directors and Creative Director’s vision.

 

ALSO

Implement building company’s blocks in line with the Senior Design Directors and Creative Director for approval

Oversee and implement marker-making processes for all samples and proto’s to be cut from.

Manage a Patternmaker WIP per style creating the life cycle of a pattern per season for all clothing.

Provide technical support and advice for all Patternmakers, junior garment techs, technical assistants and garment techs

Responsible for checking all fit models’ measurements to be in line with our measurements

Make patternmakers aware of any measurements that are not specific to the company standard measurement to prevent any fit issues.

Help roll out the Style Cad process with the Production and Ops Manager.

Implementing a PLM System (Product Lifestyle Management) into the pattern room, along with staff training

 

  • Fitting

Attend fittings in development and pre-production to monitor fit along with providing any constructive input to prevent any fit issues.

Review fit notes after each session and work with pattern makers to prioritize workload juggling fitting alterations with new styles.

Analise any fit issues with Designers and patternmakers providing the best solution for the best fit

 

Quality Assurance

Flag any inconsistencies between styles in fabric/trim groups to the design team as and when picked up so that finishes are correctly matched from the beginning of the development stage.

Sense check lining quality and accessories used (e.g., zip teeth size) and flag with Design if a better alternative could be used.

Trouble shoot any performance concerns

Liaise with QA manager

 

Production

Review production schedules from all teams and with input from Design Studio Director.

Work with pattern makers on best workflow to ensure the needs of both the design department and production department are met.

Hold weekly meetings with production.

Manage pre-production WIP

Manage SMS to PPS and PPS to Bulk in line with Production Cp

 

Shows

Follow direction from Creative Director and Senior Designers on workflow for the Pattern Room working closely with the RTW Design Room Manager and Coordinator for Ready-to-Wear.

Work closely with pattern makers and senior designers on cutting directions for print and embroidery artworks and record these with the assistance of the design assistants for future production use.

SKILLS & SPECIFICATIONS

A minimum of 10 years’ experience in a similar role working for a luxury brand presenting at least two Runway collections per year.

Hold a fashion design degree from a respected Australian or international institution and have achieved outstanding results.

Excellent technical knowledge and understanding of garment construction, fit, finish and pattern making across multi-product categories.

Computer skilled, particularly in Microsoft Office, Photoshop and Illustrator. Provide your expertose with any of the followong systems:     Gerber, Style Cad or lectra computer patternmaking experience is required.

Be able to combine creative and technical skills.

Able to work under pressure to tight deadlines.

Exceptionally well organized with the ability to problem solve efficiently and work reactively to change.

SMS to PPS are delivered on time according to seasonal critical path, and in line with Creative Director’s expectations for quality.

Pattern makers workload is evenly balanced between proto sampling and production, meeting deadlines for both teams.

Quality issues are spotted early and corrected ahead of SMS proto sampling stage.

Runway collections are beautifully produced to the highest level of quality for each show season.

Patternmakers are developing the best fit in line with company’s requirements
