Job Description

Our client is a nationally recognised FASHION HOUSE for the more mature woman.

Under the direction of the head designer: patternmaking, fitting, grading and measurements specifications for local garment production using Style CAD patternmaking software.

Supervise an assistant patternmaker/ grader.

Contribution to offshore patternmaking development and working with in-house sample machinists, cutting room and production staff and local makers to ensure their style, fit and quality standards are achieved.

 

Key responsibilities & duties:

  • Develop patterns for garments from sketches, photos sample and references provided by the designer using approved fit blocks, sizing standards and advanced patternmaking technology.
  • Attend fit sessions with design taking responsibility for the fit and technical aspects of garments from design concept to finished bulk product through the sample approval process of fit samples and approved preproduction samples.
  • Ensure the company and client quality standards of construction, workmanship, sizing, grading and technical integrity of the garment are achieved.
  • Make pattern alterations accurately and effectively to achieve the required fit and style.
  • Grade patterns accurately to the sizing standards of company and clients.
  • Work with the sample cutter and machinists to problem solve and ensure efficient bulk production manufacturing standards are achieved.
  • Create graded measurement specification sheets in Harmony following client and client sizing formats.
  • Prepare and transfer the final pattern of the approved fit sample to the Style CAD production file for access by the marker maker.
  • Process final approved samples for production by attaching an approved sample tag, achieve QC sign-off for approval of construction, prepare and attach a style pack containing the initial design sheet, graded size spec, pattern screenshot, and cutting sheet then presenting to the planner for production handover.
  • Work within a team in an organised timely manner to achieve sample approval and production deadlines for timely delivery of orders.
  • Maintain an organised hard and soft copy pattern library following company filing protocols.
  • Assist off-shore product developer with fitting issues, producing patterns and graded nests where required to achieve company fit and style with offshore suppliers.

 

Qualifications / Skills / Work experience required:

Formal Qualifications in Fashion Design, Clothing Studies, Advanced Patternmaking and Grading.

Formal training and previous experience in CAD patternmaking using StyleCAD or similar patternmaking and grading software.

Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Outlook, Paint)

Knowledge of Harmony or similar order management systems in creating graded size specifications.

Proven ability to manage an assistant and prioritise workflow.

Extensive industry experience and successful outcomes in similar roles.

 

Personal qualities and behavioural traits:

Have a thorough understanding of garment fitting, patternmaking, grading, sizing, garment construction and manufacturing.

To be organised, and analytical, have clear written and verbal communication skills, the ability to understand instructions and offer solutions for fit, design and manufacturing problems.

Suggest and carry out improvements to products and systems relating to patternmaking.

Be flexible and adaptive in researching and developing patterns for a range of products that may include items other than standard garment types.

Casual rate:$50-$52/hour approx 20 hours/week.  Located in the South East of Melbourne
